Indian Railways plans to offer SMS alerts and set up Wi-Fi network at select stations

The Ministry of Railways has announced that it intends to improve the delivery of railways services through adoption of telecom technologies. The Indian Railways plans to introduce destination arrival SMSes, ticket booking through phones and wake-up calls, among others.
Further, the Indian Railways will launch the next-generation ticket reservation system and Wi-Fi services in all A-one and category-A stations and select trains. It has also proposed to provide workstations in select trains on payment basis to add value to business travelers.
The Indian Railways will award contracts for installing telecom networks through a competitive process.
